The Wilson WH-5 is a close replication of the H-5 mandolas produced by Gibson under the watch of Lloyd Loar during the early 1920s. Constructed like the F-5, with similar appointments and tone bar bracing, the WH-5 has a larger body and a deeper “voice” by losing the high “E” strings and adding the lower “C” strings as found on an orchestral viola. The WH-5 has a string scale length of 15.574”.
These depictions are of a Wilson WH-5 which was only Craig’s 2nd mandolin family instrument project, built in 2009.
